Ultrasound Podcast

Cardiac POCUS can be dramatically useful and life-saving in cardiac arrest. I like to think about it in three different broad categories: Procedural, identifying reversible causes, and guiding therapy.

This video isn’t a discussion regarding its utility for procedures or diagnosing reversible causes, but it is talking about how maybe the echo pulse check is not the best way to assess for adequate perfusion during pulse checks.

Terren Trott, MD and I discuss our thoughts on two articles demonstrating how carotid and femoral artery ultrasound can be utilized during pulse checks.  Check out the publications we will be discussing on Pubmed: PMIDs 35131404 and 35792305.

In this five minute sono video, I’m going to walk you through how to get started scanning the lungs.

The most common applications for performing an ultrasound of the lungs include pulmonary edema (traditionally seen in heart failure exacerbations but can be present in plenty of other pathologies), pneumothorax and pleural effusion.

In this 5 Min Sono Video, we show you the basics of how to identify pericardial tamponade using ultrasound. The key is diastolic collapse of one of the right sided chambers (atrial diastole and ventricular diastole).

If you need a little primer on pericardial effusions (that aren’t tamponade), check out the 5 Minute Sono video on pericardial effusions either on this podcast, on youtube, or on the website

I’ll be posting all of the 5 Minute Sono videos that were exclusively on our website here so stay tuned for future videos!

In this 5 Min Sono Video, we show you the basics of how to specifically identify pericardial effusions using ultrasound. This will just be to help with pericardial effusions, and we’ll talk about tamponade in a separate 5 Minute Sono video!  I’ll be posting all of the 5 Minute Sono videos that were exclusively on our website here so stay tuned for future videos!
